Robot Models Learn Whole-Body Control

Google DeepMind introduced Gemini Robotics 2: a vision-language-action model for motor control, an embodied reasoning model called Gemini Robotics ER 2, and an on-device version. Google says the release adds whole-body humanoid control, multi-finger dexterity and multi-robot collaboration, with company-reported task success rates ranging from 32% to 92%. ER 2 is available in Google AI Studio; the action and on-device models are limited to early-access partners.

Anthropic

Model Finds Flaws in Two Ciphers

Anthropic’s Frontier Red Team reported two cryptanalytic results produced with Claude Mythos Preview. One improves the best known attack on HAWK, a NIST post-quantum signature candidate. The other speeds up attacks on a seven-round variant of AES-128 by a company-reported 200–800 times. Anthropic says neither affects production systems and released two papers plus CryptanalysisBench.

OpenAI

Free Frontier Access for Academics

OpenAI announced ChatGPT for Academic Researchers, offering free access to frontier models for researchers at selected degree-granting institutions. The company says it is starting with 10,000 researchers this summer and plans to expand to 100,000 through 2027. Approved researchers receive a workspace and may invite up to four collaborators. Applications are open.

Health Arrives in ChatGPT

OpenAI began rolling out Health in ChatGPT to logged-in U.S. users 18 and older on web and iOS. People can choose to connect Apple Health and supported medical records. OpenAI says connected data and related conversations are not used to train its foundation models or target ads.

Anthropic States Its Position

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said the company has never advocated banning open-weights models. He instead supports advanced-chip export controls, measures against industrial-scale distillation, and pre-release safety testing for sufficiently capable models, open or closed.
