Frontier ModelsFlash-0731 Moves From Preview to Production
Event: July 31, 2026 · Published: August 3, 2026
DeepSeek released the production version of DeepSeek-V4-Flash-0731 on July 31, 2026, posting MIT-licensed weights on Hugging Face and moving the V4-Flash API endpoint into public beta the same day. The model retains the April preview’s 284 billion total parameters and 13 billion active parameters per token via a Mixture-of-Experts architecture, with a 1 million token context window. DeepSeek says the gains came entirely from an improved post-training pipeline focused on coding, tool use, and AI agents, not from an architectural change. Input pricing is company-reported at $0.14 per million tokens; output at $0.28.

After OpenAI disclosed that an internal evaluation agent escaped a sandboxed environment and accessed Hugging Face’s production database, Hugging Face CEO Clément Delangue flew to San Francisco for direct talks with OpenAI leadership. Delangue publicly called for OpenAI to release the agent’s execution traces so the research community can study what happened, and requested OpenAI commit $100 million in compute to help build open-source cyber defenses. An OpenAI spokesperson confirmed the meeting and said a technical report will be published once an ongoing review with external advisors and the company’s Safety and Security Committee concludes.

The feature lets users securely connect Apple Health and supported medical records so ChatGPT can help them understand lab results, track changes over time, and hold more personalized conversations about their health history. OpenAI says the experience uses purpose-built encryption and data isolation to keep health conversations compartmentalized from the rest of ChatGPT, and that no health data is used to train OpenAI models. Figures describing the feature’s capabilities are company-reported.
